Finned tubes are elongated flat tubes with brazed aluminium fins made of carbon steel with an aluminium coating. These tubes are part of a heat exchanger network. Because the fins make more contact with the liquid outside, they have an advantage over standard tubes. This speeds up heat transfer from the liquid inside the tube to the liquid outside. Heat exchange would be much slower in a normal tube.

Finned tubes are particularly beneficial in air heat exchangers. Heat is transferred between a liquid and a gas in an air heat exchanger. A finned tube can be extremely useful because the heat coefficient of the airside is lower. A finned tube's increased surface area allows for faster heat transfer between the components.
